Well ahoy there lads and lasses!
As it’s in the thick of summer I’m very happy to share with you my choice to make shorts this month for my Minerva Crafts make!
It’s funny how since choosing this pattern and fabric shorts have become a big part of my life… I have made many pairs this year they have become my favourite thing to whip up – I’ve been making them for friends and family and now even sell custom made ones on my online shop, Gabberdashery so it was interesting to go back to a pattern for these… in particular- New Look Ladies Sewing Pattern 6100.
This was a completely different way to make shorts to how I do them now- without a pattern – so I followed the instructions closely throughout and learnt a few things! I sewed these up in half a day which I think it long for a pair of shorts but they do have some tricks up their sleeve. There is leg facing to make the cute cuffs, the zip is on the side (which is first for me but not nearly as hard as I thought it would be) and a lovely long tie belt with belt loops. All these things make this pair look like they came straight off a shelf so I may well be adopting some techniques for my own designs in the future!
The fabric is amazing! All you have to do is show it the iron and it presses like a dream and stays there – I used less pins on seams than ever before because this lovely poplin didn’t move at all. It’s soft and got a great amount of flow and rigidity so I think it’s perfect for shorts or trousers too – I might have to purchase more for some Capris… 😉 Oh and it’s floral design is adorable too!
I know I’m going to wear the hell out of these shorts – the pockets are nice and roomy, they fit really well and the length is just right… I’m allergic to really short things! 🙂
And… the best bit… my shoes MATCH! So I managed to buy some cheap floral trainers at the airport around the same time I was waiting for the Minerva kits to arrive in the post that are pretty much the same fabric!! Hahaha… I don’t know how much I will wear this combo in public but at home, in my garden on for walking the dog the matching shoes ‘n’ shorts outfit sure does make me smile!!
So that’s all from me and my shorts (and shoes!) I hope the sun comes out a bit more tomorrow so I can get a whole day’s wear out of them, not just the 15mins of photographing them for this blog!! 🙂
Well I’m off to walk the dog whilst the rain has stopped…
Toodlepip!
I love these shorts! I don’t get chance to wear shorts very often given the rubbish weather we always have in England but when the sun comes out I always wish I had a great pair of shorts to wear. I really hate wearing really short things but these look the perfect length and I definitely think you should wear them with the matching shoes!
