OK so I have had people asking ‘what has happened to your DIY blog?’ and seeing as it wasn’t just my mum I realised that it might be missed… but the truth is I don’t feel very creative in the winter. I avoid the garden, as it’s basically a plant graveyard, there are dead leaves EVERYWHERE and the pond is overflowing so I wait until the first possible warm day and dash out there- broom in hand, and sort it.
That day was last Thursday but in my haste to turn it back into a garden of living things I forgot I was a blogger and got no before pictures… but I do have the week before when it was covered in snow:
Oh I love the snow… but I am ready for SPRING!!!
So I started early – I cleared all the leaves, raked out the old and made room for the new, I’m happy to say that is a lot of new shooting through the earth and for the first time ever – in all the right places! This time last year our weeding problem was horrific but I have only had to get rid of a handful this time… well, so far! I sieved out the pond weed and am googling why it looks like oil to sort that out (any ideas?!) I have even cleared the junk that we left in the ‘corridor’ by the side of the house AND sorted out the summerhouse that definitely became a storage shed over the winter but now it’s ready for work, sewing and some crafts. I have no doubt the summer will be wonderful in this garden – the first year we have to enjoy it instead of heavy duty slaving away in it every day possible.
I still have some projects in mind –
* Sorting the pond (properly) and getting the pump to work again!
* Getting the hammock up
* Getting the brick built BBQ up and running
* Lots of planting, sowing and getting COLOUR into the flower beds and pots
* GARDEN PARTY (we still haven’t had one… yet!)
So that should keep me pretty busy… but… I LIVE IN ENGLAND and we all know that means; sun is unfortunately rare and short and I can’t be out of the garden all the time.
Now I do have gigs coming up and appointments, meetings blah blah blah but generally I am ‘free’ at the moment… so I need more to keep me occupied:
ENTER PROJECT BEDROOM!
We have had the builders in recently sorting our long struggling problem of DAMP and they concentrated on the bedroom wall that connected with the outside. They have damp-proofed it all and plastered, painted it over so we have freshly painted walls (I wish I could choose the colour – it’s still white white white – but we live in a rented flat so it’s sadly not my choice) and we have been living in the sitting room- sleeping on the sofa bed. So it’s a great chance to REDO THE BEDROOM.
We have many problems with this room –
* No space to move around
* Big furniture; chunky bedframe, drawers etc.
* Lacking colour and interest
But there are pluses –
* Light, airy room with a big window with shutters
* A great gallery wall on one size
* POTENTIAL
This weekend is looking like it’s going to rain and Hobbes and I are home alone (BF on a Stag weekend) so I am going to begin PROJECT BEDROOM I have some ideas but until I clear the crap and get in there I won’t know what fits where but I will keep you posted. I HAVE to do this on a complete shoestring as I honestly don’t have the choice (yes, still a struggling musician!) so it will be fun to see what I can do. I know I need to de-clutter but I’m ready to be ruthless and I have a lot of clutter indeed!
I definitely want to transform the bed and make a proper headboard for it…
This is from a tutorial on ikeahackers.net – MY EXACT BED with a new headboard! |
When I do have money I want this bedspread soooo badly:
Anthropologie (of course!) |
But I might well settle for this:
IKEA!!! |
On that note… I must go to bed. All this talking of hard work has made me sleepy!!!
