Not Enough Hours In A Day…

Well hello there!
As you can tell from this title I have no time, it’s got rather ridiculous and I think I have become the worst blogger ever as a result – I shouldn’t really be blogging right now as my to do list is still full of urgent things and many stars and underlines but, you know what, I miss blogging so I’m going to jolly well steal an hour on this lovely balmy Sunday night to do some!

I actually managed to hide away today to get some gardening time and went to the Grow London Show on Hampstead Heath which just happens to be on my doorstep so I feel INSPIRED!

To be honest I needed some time away from music and emails and phonecalls and many problems that I definitely don’t want to go into and gardening is my respite… my healer and I am very thankful to it.

So anywaaaaayyy… here’s how things are looking in my little patch of north London:

Today – 22/06/14
The vegetable planter in May… the leeks, potatoes and onions are still going but new beetroots, carrots, broad beans and peppers… sadly the red pepper and all the carrots were gone a few days later I’m guessing to snails 🙁
The best thing I have done this year is take out a brute of a weed/tree/bramble bitch taking up the whole front garden and hiding all these plants, including a poor rose and hydrangea who are now deliriously happy!
The Bluebells were spectacular this spring!
And I’m so happy with the many Geraniums I have now – they are SO carefree! <3
Of course Hobbes is in fine form too and STILL hasn’t noticed the frogs thankfully!
Mum gave me my first Wisteria which is my favourite plant! 🙂

Peonies!! Last year they didn’t come out – they looked like the one on the left for the whole season so I was ecstatic to see them in full bloom this Spring…
So happy that I wanted to see it everyday so I put it on my kitchen windowsill with a sprig of Aqualisia
I got given 9 of these on freecycle…
They are very happy in there new home!! 🙂
The roses are doing very well everywhere this year… last summer there were under 5 blooms on this plant!
My first Alium!!
I have Foxgloves finally! Another favourite of mine and always reminds me of my childhood home 🙂
Lots of this is needed, but it’s SO expensive! Sadly Slugs and Snails are prolific this year!!
And LOTS of these have been spotted – it’s amazing how much they trust me now – they will let me get really close without flinching… aww!

And more about the Grow London Show … as well as getting lots of ideas for plants, containers and design we stayed for a talk by Val Bourne, who just happens to be a brilliant, funny and interesting woman, and she has totally convinced me to be a natural gardener so no more sprays or pellets as they kill everything and its really important to let your garden become an eco system so the predators will just come along and get rid of the pests eating your plants. She also said to let go of the garden failures – that they happen to everyone and to grow what works, so that was good to hear. I am also on slug and snail nightwatch now- with a torch and a bucket I won’t let them ruin anymore Hostas or vegetables… NOT ON MY WATCH! 😉 Thankyou Val for giving me confidence as a new gardener!

This was tonight’s snailwatch collection… EURGH!

I hope everyone is having sun at the moment, it really does make life better and we all need it!

Love and as many snails as you want,

  1. Wow Gabby, it looks really peaceful, inviting and cozy! A little piece of paradise in the city..love the overal style (reminds me of France), letting the plants breath and not making it all too neat and organized. That’s not how nature works, does it? My cats don’t actually see anything that doesn’t moves either, but God forbid when they finally DO move..although there was a toad in our garden a little while ago, they really had no clue what to do with it :-)! Actually, this weekend we literally took out all our hostas (or what was left of them) because of those darn snails (ok, ok, our 2 adorable little rabbits might have something to do with it too). I must admit I’m such a softie, can’t get myself to kill the snails, so I free them somewhere in a piece of public green haha.. I hope you enjoy your garden as much as you can!
