Plants! Plants! Plants!

Good evening sweetpeas!
Sorry I didn’t blog last week – I have a very good excuse, my mac power supply broke and looks suspiciously like it has been nibbled on by an unwanted friend (!) so I could only use my laptop for quick very important things and sadly I spend hours trawling through pictures and rabbiting on when blogging! Thanks to the lovely Milly Mcgregor giving me her old charger I have power again and wasn’t going to let my weekly free Weds night go past without a blog.
NB, Wednesday night is when my OH practices with his great band REVERE so I always make this my blog & Location, Location, Location/ Gardeners World TV night!

I’ve had a packed couple of weeks – sewing, cooking, back to gigging with my band and lots of planting and changes in the garden have happened that I wanted to share… come on outside…

SO happy to have cut daffodils from my garden for the first year ever! They smell amazing!

I’m loving the warm days and earth on my fingers – I have been fortunate enough to be given lots of plants recently that I have had an amazing time adding to the garden.

These Hostas, in the background, are a very welcome addition near the pond but last year I was devastated to find them annihilated by the slugs so this year I have circled everything edible with coarse sand- so far it’s working but I’ll keep my beady eyes out this time!

The pond has had a massive spring clean and makeover with new plants in, on top and around the pond which has made it sooo clear. If you have a pond and are suffering from dull, dark water get a couple of oxygenator plants at your local garden centre and pop them into the water- they are cheap and really clear up the water. Also straw helps- wrapped up in a net or tights!

We have frogs again, lots!! 🙂

May is my favourite month… when flowers appear- the green is finally interrupted by colour!

Amongst the new plantings are 5 fruit trees that I got on groupon in February for just £29! They are finally waking up from their dormancy and sprouting leaves… I can’t wait for the fruit!

The apple trees are waking up the quickest
I found these 2 plants (in the middle) in bags outside a neighbour’s house – any idea what they are?
We are trying to put up this beautiful birdhouse we got given from a super fan but it’s SO heavy… again any ideas are welcome!
Yay! Tidy luscious looking garden!! 🙂
Stephen took me plant shopping!! 🙂

PLANT HAUL! From left to right : A giant trailing Rosemary herb bush, 2 small Japanese Maples, Baby Sweetcorn, Courgette plant and Ceanothus… (the potatoes behind were given to me by Milly along with Raspberry and Strawberry plants)

It’s not very often that I can just go guilt free plant shopping and I was like a kid in a sweet shop but I’m definitely getting better at plant shopping- I am much more considered and practical then the old ‘it’s pretty and I want it’ me, I now think about where it would go in the garden, if its suits our soil, situation, how big it will get etc. At the moment I want to get things to encourage bees so the Ceanothus and Rosemary should help that.

And this is where they ended up!

I will be blogging about the veggie garden next and building a raised bed out of free wooden pallets- that Stephen (with a little help from me) made last week!

I am so excited about growing veggies and having fruit trees and plants in the garden… it’s my dream to become self sufficient ever since I saw…

“The Good Life” – my all time favourite programme, couple, way of life etc etc etc…
(Actually Barbara always reminded me of my mum!)

More on that later – this blog has taken me hours as I was also cooking, sewing a birthday present and starting a band blog at the same time and now it’s way past my bed time (which has become a lot earlier this year, it must be a sign of age!)
Nighty nightkins,
