The Knitting & Stitching Show…

Good day little birdies!

I’m going to keep this one really short and picture-y because I have SO much to do before I start my ‘proper job’ next week…waaaaah!

Last Saturday I found myself in the mecca of all things sewing, knitting, crafts and happy people… The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show… It was wonderful. I have to say when I first walked in all I could feel was overwhelmed as it really is huge, sooo busy and I just didn’t know where to start but I just decided to treat it like a big shopping trip so started with the first stall!

Apologies for bad, blurry, walking through crowd iphone pictures!

I was in a rare confident-ish chatty mood and as I was there alone (yes, Gabby no mates!) I got talking to lots of lovely people – mainly stall holders or people in queues but also, rather excitedly to Paul, Matt, Ryan, Neil, Deborah and Alex from this year’s Great British Sewing Bee and what a lovely lot they are! I have to say after years of music events full of cliquey, bitchy, too cool for school bands the sewing/knitting community are a very welcome breath of fresh air – they are all smiley and welcoming – I’m a bit in love with everyone of them I have met so far!

I definitely took the shopping bit, maybe a little too, seriously and blew my budget but I could have been a LOT worse.

Here’s what I got:

Lots of magazines, fabrics and useful accessories!

All these fabrics were from Montreux Fabrics – the top flocked chiffon at £6 a metre is going to be a top. The tropical knit for £14 a 50s wiggle dress and the cosy navy blue wool jersey for £8 a jumper of some short!

And this was exactly what I was looking for – just over 2.5m of black & white stripey double stretch for just £8!
IMG_9280
This thing rocks my world- it’s a small storage case with many clever compartments for all my trimmings!

And this to keep Hobbes’ dog hair at bay! I hope it works as well as the demonstration that I clearly got suckered into! 😉

I also stayed around to do a masterclass with the lovely Lauren (from Sewing Bee series 1) where she taught us how to put together a simple top, french seams and finishing the collar and sleeves with bias binding. I’m pleased I got a seat as it was rather brilliant and now I’m not scared of trying bias binding – yay!

So much so that I’m using bias binding for edging a top I made at my sewing lesson last night – I used Chiffon for the first time… I’m not in a hurry to use it again… boy does it MOVE!

SEW much loooove,
