Happy Friday people!!
It’s June now so that means Me Made May is over for another year and that makes me a sad panda!
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a thousand times – MMM is inspiring in every sense of the word. It inspires creativity, encouragement, passion, friendships, connection, support and it’s a muse I shall miss. I’m already finding my instagram feed much less exciting…
For me it was very important this year as it basically dragged me out of bed to put on me made clothes that made me feel good about myself and make an effort at a time when I needed it more than ever. Instead of worrying about my upcoming surgery I was busy making pajamas for wearing during recovery, instead of thinking ‘shit I’ve got cancer’ I was thinking ‘ I wonder if the weather will be nice enough for me to wear my summery dresses this May?’ and instead of going to dark places I was looking at photos from fellow sewists, a lot of them who have become friends, and feeling inspired, happy and positive. So thank you Me Made May, thank you fellow sewists for being there and thank you Zoe for starting such a powerful thing!
Also – I made it the whole way through this year (apart from the obvious exception of hospital robes! I did ask them if I could wear my me-made PJs but sadly no!) and that is so exciting to me, to think that in the short time I’ve been sewing (nearly a 1.5Years now) I have made a whole month’s worth of clothes!! YAAAAY FOR SEWING!
Here’s my final lot…
Clockwise from bottom right:
- MONDAY 16th May – At the Great British Sewing Bee meetup in my just finished Gertie’s Shirtwaist dress from Gertie’s New Book for Better Sewing: A Modern Guide to Couture-style Sewing Using Basic Vintage Techniques
- RECOVERY DAYS – I lived in my specially made PJs for a week (whilst watching a lot of Friends and films!)
- FRIDAY 27th May – First day out in a dress that was started by a friend who gave it to me to finish and resize and that ole trusty knitted headband!
- SATURDAY 28th May – Traipsing around Islington’s charity and antique shops in my Megan dress from Tilly’s Love at First Stitch: Demystifying Dressmaking
- SUNDAY 29th May – Amazing day of Boats, Picnics, Car Boots Sales and lots of lovely friends in my Simple Sew’s Sophia skirt
- MONDAY 30th May – Hanging out with Hobbes in my contrast jersey TATB Bettine dress from this vlog
- TUESDAY 31st May – Last day in my only repeat of the month… Delphine skirt and knitted jumper!
All in all I would say that I was happy with all my looks and so pleased about the lack of repeats! I can see the gaps in my handmade wardrobe are tops, cardigans and trousers – so that’s what will be keeping me busy making over the next few weeks as well as some lovely dresses ready for the summer of course!
It was too fun not to make a collage of the whole month so I’ll leave you with this…
Love and other stuff,
OH PS. I’m so happy to share that I’ve been featured in the fabulous Girl Charlee blog today including my top picks of their amazing knit fabrics (they are gorgeous!!)
