Good morning birdies!
I’m happy to report that I had one of the best weekends ever! My amazing sisters took me on a surprise trip to play a brilliant team game akin to the escape rooms -complete with piecing together a glockenspiel to play Lady In Red by magnet and rubbing bones with a locket to get the numbers to the combinations- it was SO MUCH FUN! The weather was so glorious that Stephen and I finally tackled our bombsite of a garden and cleared it out -which I love doing, we had a gig playing at a lovely couples’ wedding and went to see Florence Foster Jenkins at my favourite sofa’d cinema- Everyman – IT’S AMAZING! I haven’t laughed that hard in a cinema… ever.
Anyway… the reason I am here is to share my first week of outfits I wore as part of Me Made May …
My pledge:
‘I, Gabby Young of gabberdashery.com and @gabbyyoungofficial on instagram, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’16. I endeavour to wear at least one item of hand sewn or knitted clothes each day for the duration of May 2016 even though from 19th May they will mostly be pyjamas as I’ve got some major surgery to go through but MMM will cheer me up and I will endeavour to make a fab pair of PJs beforehand’
In order from top left down to bottom right:
DAYS
- SUNDAY 1ST MAY – A comfy dress version of Grainline’s Hemlock tee (it’s a free pattern!) in printed spotty jersey from Abakhan
- MONDAY -A new Colette’s Moneta in heart print jersey also from Abakhan
- TUESDAY – Fresh from the machine, a So Zo Dolores Batwing dress in poppy jersey from EBAY
- WEDNESDAY – Simplicity 1325 top in Minerva Crafts dogtooth ponte roma and blue corduroy Delphine from Tilly Walnes’ Love At First Stitch book. Oh and my hand knitted trusty red headband!
- THURSDAY – Simple Sew’s Classic Trousers in floral cotton from White Tree Fabrics and a self drafted wire headband
- FRIDAY – Abakhan fabric Lilou from Tilly’s L.L.A.F.S book and knitted Andi Satterlund Plain Jane cardigan
- SATURDAY – My new Minerva make’s Dungarees Kwik Sew K4138 in corded gingham. – AND for the evening gig Simple Sew’s Bardot dress in flamingo cotton from Fabrics Galore
- SUNDAY 8TH MAY – A very quick jersey maxi dress – self drafted in floral fabric from Rolls and Rems
I really am loving me made May – it’s getting me to wear things I would save for special occasions everyday and not just stay in my PJs to sew in the house! I always feel more confident wearing things I have made and I have to say I have been in a specially chipper mood so far this month and I think it has something to do with it!
I realise I wear a lot of jersey – well I always like to be comfortable! I am also aware I need to make more tops -plain ones, to wear with my separates – I have a lot of printed skirts to team them up with.
I have been sharing these pictures everyday on instagram and am completely bowled over by the love I am getting there – it really makes me so happy to get so much support from the amazing sewing community and beyond for making and wearing my own clothes. I adore looking through everyone elses’- it feels like we are all part of a massively exciting and beautiful movement about expressing yourself through creativity and it feels great to be a part of it!
I’m off to walk Hobbes in another me-made outfit!
See you soon,
A great collection of outfits there Gabby. So full of pattern, colour and fun combinations. I look forward to seeing your next round up as I’ve quit IG due to the fact I got totally addicted!! Would love to catch up soon,
Caroline
